Building with Purpose: How to Invite God into Your Website Planning Process
Creating a website can feel like a checklist — fonts, copy, tech, done. But when you’ve been entrusted with a message that reflects your faith, your gifts, and your purpose, it deserves more than just a quick build.
Whether you’re a Christian entrepreneur, speaker, coach, or creative, this isn’t just about building a site — it’s about reflecting the calling God has placed on your life. In this post, we’ll explore how to invite God into your website planning process so that it becomes not just a project — but an offering.
Start with Surrender, Not Strategy
Strategy matters. Messaging matters. Design matters.
But before all of that — surrender.
Ask:
Lord, what do You want this website to do?
Who are You calling me to serve through this?
How can I reflect Your character in the way I communicate online?
You don’t need every detail figured out before you begin, but grounding your process in prayer gives the project direction — and peace.
Define Your Purpose Before You Pick a Platform
One of the most common mistakes I see is jumping into tech before defining purpose.
Before you choose between WordPress, Squarespace, or any other platform, pause and consider:
- What is this website supposed to do? (inform, invite, sell, encourage?)
- What kind of people is it meant to reach?
- How can this site serve them clearly and graciously?
The more you anchor your design in mission, the more confident and focused your decisions will be.
Include Prayer in the Planning (and the Copy!)
As you outline your site or write your About page, invite the Holy Spirit into the process. Don’t just write about your offer — write from the place God has given you that offer.
You can even pray over specific sections:
- “Lord, help me write this homepage with clarity.”
- “Let this contact form be a space where people feel safe to reach out.”
- “Use this Services page to speak to the right person, at the right time.”
Your copy doesn’t have to be filled with overtly spiritual language to be Spirit-led. Sometimes grace shows up in tone, simplicity, and peace.
Give Yourself Permission to Build with Grace
It’s easy to treat your website like another item on your to-do list: pick a template, add some pages, get it done. But that kind of purpose doesn’t start with fonts or page layouts. It starts with Him.
If your website is taking longer than it “should,” remember:
You’re not just building a platform. You’re preparing a place to serve.
Give yourself grace for the process, and trust that God works in the details — even in the font choice or button layout.
A Website That Starts with God Stands with Purpose
When you begin your website with prayer — not pressure — you create space for God to shape more than just the site. You create space for Him to shape the message, the mission, and the people it’s meant to reach.
So if you’re staring at a blank screen or wrestling with overwhelm, pause and pray. Let this be a holy project — one that reflects the reason behind the work you do.
